Salomon is known for some of the best outdoor running gear in the world. They have some of the most incredible athletes using their gear, and avid adventurers are heavy repeat buyers. Here, we will take a deep dive into reviewing the Salomon Speedcross 5 trail runners. Previously, we have reviewed the Salomon Speedcross 4. This newer version has replaced the 4 as our go to trail running shoe.
These shoes have been put through thousands (yes thousands) of miles of hikes in all 4 seasons, an ultra marathon, 14,000 foot peaks, mud, rain, snow, dirt, gravel, and even the road. Here is how they felt, looked, and held up.

Our Testing Scenario
We have been avid Salomon users for quite some time. We are on our 3rd or 4th pair of these trail runners, done most of the, Colorado’s 14ers in this exact trail runner, Utah’s Wasatch range, and even ran an ultramarathon in these trail runners. They have been tested in the heat of summer, down-pouring rain, blizzards, and everything in between. They have been used with microspikes, gaiters, shorts, pants, long socks, short socks and just about everything you’d want to try.
If we fail to cover exactly what you have questions about, just message us, and we can provide that insight for you on these shoes. We haven’t been given a pair of these shoes, we have just consistently purchased them when the tread runs low!

Our Review
Grip & Traction
This is the best feature of these trail runners. By far, these have the best traction of any trail runner we have used. They are incredible for snow, mud, dirt, or gravel.
Weight & Comfort
These are such comfortable trail runners. They have breathability, but fit the foot perfectly. They are snug, which is necessary for this style trail runner, but the breathability is super nice on hot days.
Laces
The lace system on these trail runners is awesome. The quick lacing is effective, efficient, and easy to use. Another great feature of these.
Durability
These are surprisingly durably, but if you are a heavy trail runner, you will begin to wear them out from the sides and the tread. The lacing system holds up really well. Comparatively to other trail runners, these are about average in durability.
Looks
Simply put, these are great looking boots. All of the color variations.
Recommendation
These trail runners are highly recommended by our team. Whether you are a beginner trail runner or expert, this is a fantastic affordable option.
